European Commission earmarks €571.3 million for 2025 EU4Health programme

For the year 2025, the European Union is mobilising a budget of €571.3 million as part of the EU4Health programme, according to the European Commission on Thursday 24 July.

The new work programme, adopted on 24 July, reflects the €1 billion reduction in the EU4Health programme, agreed from 2025 onwards. “The Commission will draw on synergies with other EU funding programmes, such as Horizon Europe, Digital Europe Programme or European Social Fund Plus, to optimise the EU’s health investments”, explains the Commission.

This programme is provided for in Regulation 2021/522 establishing a programme of Community action in the field of health (‘EU4Health Programme’) for the period 2021-2027.

The breakdown of the 2025 budget is as follows: €195.5 million in subsidies, €281.7 million in public procurement, €2.7 million for other expenditure under direct management and €91.5 million managed indirectly.

Main areas of action: health crisis preparedness (€381 million), thanks in particular to the work of HERA (Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority); health promotion and disease prevention (€7.6 million); combating cancer, cardiovascular disease and other non-communicable diseases (€60.6 million); health systems (€71.4 million), this chapter supporting the implementation of new legislation on pharmaceuticals, medical devices, clinical trials, blood, tissues, cells and organ transplantation; digital health (€39.7 million); and other cross-functional actions (€11 million).
