European Commission proposes template for suppliers of general AI models to ensure transparency of their data

On Thursday 24 July, the European Commission presented a template for suppliers of general-purpose artificial intelligence (GPAI) models to provide them with a common minimum administrative basis for summarising the data used to form their artificial intelligence (AI) model. This data will be available online.

In accordance with the regulation on artificial intelligence, all GPAIs are required to publish a summary of the content used to train their models to ensure greater transparency of the origin of the data collected.

By means of this template, the Commission expects suppliers to give details of the main data collections used and their origin. This obligation should also enable rights holders to better verify the use of their creations.

The publication of this template comes a few days after the guidelines for providers of general AI models (see EUROPE 13684/22) and the ‘Code of Practice’ for GPAIs (see EUROPE 13678/17)
