On Thursday, 3 July, the European Commission published a public consultation regarding the review of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which it is required to conduct by May 2026.
The consultation—open to all European citizens, SMEs, professional organisations, and other stakeholders—should enable the European Commission to gather feedback on the impact and effectiveness of the DMA and its suitability in relation to the new practices as well as determine whether its objectives have been achieved.
The European Commission is also seeking to assess whether the scope of the interoperability obligation “may be extended to online social networking services” and whether it is necessary to modify certain major rules, including the list of services described as “core platform services”.
An impact report will be written based on this input and is expected to be presented to the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, and the European Economic and Social Committee.
The consultation is open until 24 September of this year, which could push the European Commission to present its impact report by the end of 2025.
