03/07/25 (Agence Europe) – Bulgarian firefighters have been working in Halkidiki, Greece, and Romanian firefighters in the south of France, near Perpignan, in recent days as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, the European Commission said on Thursday 3 July. It said that 650 firefighters from 14 European countries have been strategically positioned in key high-risk locations in France, Greece, Portugal and Spain as part of the EU’s summer wildfire preparedness. The European Commission pointed out that 22 firefighting airplanes and four helicopters stationed in ten Member States can be requested by countries through the Civil Protection Mechanism. The EU is also ready to provide Copernicus satellite images. (FS)
