Security flaws in Schengen Information System - European Commission has not been notified of any thefts or access to data

03/07/25 (Agence Europe)We are aware of the media reports and are in contact with eu-LISA on this subject”, said the Commission on Wednesday 2 July, after Bloomberg revealed the contents of a report by the European Data Protection Supervisor on the Schengen Information System (see EUROPE 13672/15). “There is no evidence that SIS data has been obtained or stolen. No infringement has been notified to the Commission to date”, it adds. “Cyber security and data protection are at the heart of our efforts to implement secure, interoperable systems. (...) All the systems managed by eu-LISA, including the SIS, are subject to continuous risk assessments, regular vulnerability analyses and security tests.” The Commission has “full confidence in eu-LISA’s ability to manage the security of the SIS”.
