Preparations for a major summit between Europe and Africa - announced by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for the end of November in Luanda (Angola) (see EUROPE 13664/24) - are expected to be one of the priorities for Denmark’s six-monthly Presidency of the EU Council.
“The Presidency will prioritise thorough preparation of the upcoming EU-AU Summit and EU-Africa Business Forum, in close consultation with African partners”, stated Copenhagen in its work programme.
Denmark announced its intention to focus on “strengthening equal and mutually beneficial partnerships with African countries”. Pursuing Global Gateway objectives is expected to be the central focus of this work.
The Presidency also said it intended to work towards rapidly implementing and ratifying the Samoa Agreement, which was concluded in November 2023 (see EUROPE 13293/19).
