08/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 8 April, the Council of the European Union’s Working Party on Energy finalised the technical negotiations on the extension of the gas storage regulation to include more flexibilities to ensure that the EU’s gas reservoirs, currently set at 90%, are filled by 1st November this year (see EUROPE 13614/23). The national experts have agreed that the new revision of the regulation should apply from 2025, in order to benefit from the flexibilities for this filling season. The Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) should now give a mandate, at their meeting on 11 April, to begin negotiations with the European Parliament, as indicated in a provisional agenda from the Council of the EU (https://aeur.eu/f/gcc ). The Polish Presidency has indicated its desire to reach an interinstitutional agreement by the end of June. (PLD)
