08/04/25 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, spoke of the possibility of holding the EU/China summit next July, according to a report of her telephone call with the Chinese Premier, Li Qiang, on Tuesday 8 April (see EUROPE 13557/6). The venue for the meeting is not yet known at this stage, according to the EU institution’s spokesperson, Paula Pinho. Ursula von der Leyen and Li Qiang also discussed the state of bilateral relations. Against an international backdrop disrupted by US tariffs (see EUROPE 13617/2), the President highlighted the fact that both Europe and China were responsible for supporting a fair trading system and underlined China’s key role in combating any trade diversion caused by tariffs.
