26/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – US President Donald Trump will impose new tariffs on vehicle imports in the coming days, according to White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. The announcement had not yet been made by the President at the time of writing, but he was expected to announce it to the press on the evening of 26 March. The taxes on cars should come on top of the ‘reciprocal’ tariffs that President Trump intends to apply on 2 April. European vehicles are currently taxed at 2.5% in the United States (a rate common to all countries), with the exception of certain trucks and pick-ups, which are subject to tariffs of up to 25%. For several weeks now, the European Commission has been making it clear that it is ready to retaliate. Last week, it postponed the application of its first series of countermeasures in order to better ‘calibrate’ them. (LM)
