Appointment of thirteen judges to EU General Court

On Wednesday 26 March, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) officially appointed thirteen judges as part of the partial renewal of the EU General Court, with the term of office of 26 judges expiring on 31 August.

Francesco Bestagno (Italy), and Tanja Pavelin (Croatia), have been appointed judges for their first term.

The mandates of Saulius Lukas Kalėda (Lithuania), Ulf Öberg (Sweden), Tamara Perišin (Croatia), Hervé Cassagnabère and Laurent Truchot (France), David Petrlík and Petra Škvařilová-Pelzl (Czech Republic) and Inga Reine and Pēteris Zilgalvis (Latvia) were renewed.

These appointments are for a term running from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2031.

In addition, Danute Jočienė (Lithuania) has been appointed Judge at the General Court to replace Rimvydas Norkus, who has been appointed Advocate General at the Court of Justice, for the remainder of his term of office, which runs until 31 August 2025.

Similarly, Jörgen Hettne (Sweden) has been appointed Judge at the General Court to replace Fredrik Schalin, who has been appointed Judge at the Court of Justice, for the remainder of his term of office, i.e. until 31 August 2025.
