26/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a report published on Wednesday 26 March, the European Environment Agency (EEA) found that Europeans are buying and discarding more clothing, footwear and other textiles than ever before. In its assessment, the EEA analyses the latest available data on the circularity of the EU textiles value chain. In 2022, for example, the average European bought 19 kg of these products, compared with 17 kg in 2019. This consumption “is putting more pressure on our climate and environment” (greenhouse gas emissions, chemical pollution and microplastics), deplored the NGO. Decision-makers and industry are therefore being called on to shift Europe away from the “fast-fashion trend” and to produce better, longer lasting quality textiles. (FS)
