Twenty-four hours after announcing the launch of a joint action with the Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) network (see EUROPE 13573/5), the Commission is now invoking the Digital Services Act (DSA) to investigate Shein’s failings.
On Thursday 6 February, the institution announced that it had asked the Chinese platform for additional information about the products it sells and its recommendation system.
The Commission is asking Shein to “provide internal documents and more detailed information on the risks associated with the presence of illegal content and goods” within its network, as well as on “the transparency of its recommendation systems and access to data for researchers”.
The platform must also provide the Commission with answers on its risk management system relating to consumer protection, public health and the well-being of users, as well as on the use of their personal data.
The Commission had already requested additional information in June from Shein on the “notification and action mechanism”, which enables users to report illegal products, as well as on the legibility of their interfaces and the protection of minors (see EUROPE 13442/6).
The platform has until 27 February to respond to the Commission's requests. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
