06/02/2025 (Agence Europe)In a press release issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Thursday 6 February, the European Union announced that, through the BESPA-FOOD project implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), it was supporting the Sri Lankan coconut industry with a ten-year strategic plan aimed at transforming it into an export powerhouse worth $2 billion. The Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure organised an initial workshop with key stakeholders to develop a roadmap. A select committee will meet in mid-February to finalise the next steps. The EU’s BESPA-FOOD project provides technical expertise to improve productivity, quality and added value.
