On Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 February, Europe’s development ministers will gather in Warsaw for their first informal meeting under the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, which will focus on the long-term strategic challenges facing EU development and humanitarian aid policies.
“A key focus will be on building the resilience of public institutions and societies in developing countries. Using the examples of Mauritania, Ukraine, and Syria, participants will explore how to better support these nations in addressing both humanitarian and developmental crises”, stated the Polish Presidency on its website.
On Monday evening, the ministers will meet for an informal dinner devoted to the implementation of the ‘Global Gateway’ strategy, with a particular focus on the increased role of the private sector in EU projects around the world (see EUROPE 13484/6).
On Tuesday morning, the ministers will examine the revitalisation of the format of this EU ‘Development’ Council in order to make it more effective in taking decisions and drawing up EU development cooperation strategies.
Discussions will then focus on European priorities in terms of financing, particularly with a view to the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, scheduled for June 2025 in Seville (see EUROPE 13488/20). (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
