On Sunday 22 September, the multilateral development banks (MDBs), including the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Council of Europe Development Bank, agreed at a meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, to hold a fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville (Spain) in 2025.
Leaders and organisations from the public and private sectors will chart the way forward in financing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the EIB said on Monday.
The high-level meeting, held on Sunday, aimed to strengthen the partnership between the UN and the MDBs. Participants discussed collaboration at national level, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected countries, as well as efforts to channel private sector resources (see EUROPE 13445/1) towards sustainable investments.
In addition, the MDBs discussed ways to mobilise Special Drawing Rights to increase financing for the SDGs, including through support for initiatives such as the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, launched by Brazil last July (see EUROPE 13461/8).
