To mark European Organic Day 2024, the European Commission announced, on Monday 23 September, the winners of the third EU Organic Awards.
This year’s winners meet the high standards of the organic sector and present sustainable and inspiring projects across the European organic value chain.
The winning projects - and the people behind them - show how organic farming and production can create innovative value chains and generate new employment opportunities in rural areas, says the Commission.
The 2024 winners include Austrian organic farmer Reinhild Frech-Emmelmann (organic, GMO-free seeds) and farmer Benny Schöpf (head of market gardening at Kartoffelkombinat, Germany’s largest community-supported cooperative farm).
Nearly 100 entries were received from all over the European Union for this year’s edition, and 24 candidates from 11 countries were shortlisted. The EU Organic Awards comprise 7 categories and 8 individual prizes, rewarding innovative and sustainable projects that bring significant added value to the production and consumption of organic produce.
