January 2025 warmest January on record worldwide and second warmest in Europe, according to Copernicus

According to the monthly bulletin from the European Commission’s climate change observatory, Copernicus Climate Change Service, published on Thursday 6 February, January 2025 was the warmest January on record worldwide, with an average surface air temperature of 13.23°C, 0.79°C warmer than the January average for the period 1991-2020. The average temperature in Europe - the second warmest after January 2020, which was 2.64°C above average - was 1.80°C, 2.51°C above average. This was particularly the case in southern and eastern Europe, including western Russia.
