15/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 14 November, the Council of the European Union’s working group on indirect taxation discussed the energy taxation directive. According to a source contacted by Agence Europe, “there is a willingness to take the matter to ministerial level to obtain political guidance on whether Member States can support maintaining the exemption for the aviation and maritime sectors” (see EUROPE 13507/17). The group also wants to know whether there is an overall balance between positions on the rest of the legislative proposal. The rest of the text still needs some fine-tuning, which will be done next year. A policy debate is due to take place at the Ecofin Council on Tuesday 10 December. This point will first be discussed by the High Level Group on Wednesday 27 November. (AD)
