15/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 13 November, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) announced that it was pressing charges against X in the French courts after being targeted by a disinformation campaign that failed to elicit any response from the social network. The NGO filed ten reports for defamation against the posts “that most heavily contributed to the spread of this disinformation”. RSF lamented that the mechanism—which is allowed under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA)—has, however, not resulted in the removal of the posts in question. At the end of August, a video “falsely labelled as content from the BBC [claimed] RSF authored a study on Nazi beliefs among members of the Ukrainian military”. RSF then revealed that the Russian state had been using the video by presenting it as reliable. According to RSF, this case illustrates the lack of moderation on X. (FS)
