13/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – As the special value added tax (VAT) regime for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) comes into force on Wednesday 1 January 2025, the new web portal went live on Tuesday 12 November (see EUROPE 12428/24). The special VAT regime allows SMEs to sell goods and services without charging VAT to their customers and to reduce their VAT compliance obligations. These rules apply to any SME with a total annual turnover not exceeding €100,000, or the equivalent in national currency, in all Member States for the current calendar year. For the previous calendar year, these SMEs will be able to benefit from VAT exemption in the Member State in which they are established and/or in other Member States under the cross-border scheme applicable to SMEs.
