13/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 13 November, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) approved the appointment of Portuguese diplomat João Cravinho to the post of EU Special Representative for the Sahel region. Although the Portuguese government had already welcomed this appointment in mid-October (see EUROPE 13505/33), Mr Cravinho’s appointment should be formally confirmed at the meeting of European foreign affairs ministers scheduled for Monday 18 November in Brussels. The term of office of the Italian Emanuela Claudia Del Re, who currently holds this position, ends on 30 November. (BD)
