On Tuesday 29 October, CLECAT, which represents freight transport and logistics professionals, and the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) published an information note for freight forwarders on the European Union’s import control system (ICS2), which has an impact on the maritime sector (EUROPE 13469/5).
The guidance document highlights the importance of early action for freight forwarders globally to ensure compliance, maintain control over internal data, prevent disruption and ensure ICS2 compliance for shipping.
Freight forwarders acting as carriers must take proactive steps to protect their business by becoming ‘house- level filers’ and maintaining control over ‘house-level data’. They must not rely on shipping companies for internal reporting or share commercially sensitive data unless necessary.
