03/09/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 September, the European Commission announced that it had registered Turkish “Hüyük Çileği” strawberries in the Community register of protected designation of origin (PDO). These strawberries, grown in the province of Konya in central south-western Turkey, have a distinctive taste and smell. The microclimate created by Lake Beyşehir, on the shores of the district, and by the surrounding mountains, meets the temperature, humidity, rainfall, sunshine and cooling requirements of the ‘Hüyük Çileği’ and protects it from frost damage. This new designation will join the list of 3626 products already protected at EU level. (LC)
