In May 2024, the EU’s agri-food trade surplus remained stable at €5 billion, down slightly compared to May 2023, according to the latest monthly report (https://aeur.eu/f/dar ) on agri-food trade, published on Tuesday 3 September by the European Commission.
Agri-food exports from the EU remained stable at €19.7 billion in May. Cumulative exports from January to May reached €97.4 billion, up 2% on 2023. The United Kingdom was the top destination for these products, followed by the United States (+9% due to higher olive oil prices). Exports to Russia fell by 15% (€463 million), especially in spirits.
Olive oil exports surged by 60% (+€1.2 billion), while cereal export values fell by 14% (€937 million) due to lower prices.
EU agri-food imports totalled €14.7 billion, up 3% from May 2023 (€69.6 billion, from January to May). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
