03/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 September, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, “categorically” rejected the arrest warrant issued for conspiracy and sabotage by a Venezuelan court specialising in terrorism against the Venezuelan opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, who is claiming victory in the July presidential elections. Mr González failed to turn up to three summonses from the courts, which wanted to interview him on the subject of the political opposition’s website showing him as the election winner. “The repression and harassment of the opposition and civil society must stop! The will of the Venezuelan people must be respected”, he declared via the X network. The EU does not recognise the legitimacy of the re-election of the Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro (see EUROPE 13471/4). (MB)
