26/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 26 July, the foreign affairs coordinator for the ECR Group in the European Parliament, Adam Bielan (Polish), requested the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, to reconsider the decision to send the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Enrique Mora, to the inauguration of the new Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, on 30 July. “This decision is not only misguided but stands in direct contradiction to the values and principles that the European Union purports to uphold”, said Mr Biedan. “Engaging diplomatically with such a regime at this juncture is highly inappropriate and dangerous. It undermines the integrity of our foreign policy and sends a message of tacit approval to a government that flagrantly violates human rights and international norms”, stresses the MEP in a letter to Mr Borrell.
