23/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 July, the European Commission published a new document to answer key questions concerning the implementation of the ‘FuelEU Maritime’ regulation on the use of low-carbon and renewable fuels in maritime transport (see EUROPE 13229/25). The new rules will apply from 1 January 2025, with the exception of articles 8 and 9 on the monitoring plan, which will apply from Saturday 31 August 2024. The Q&A reflects questions posed by stakeholders and covers definitions of terms used, primary obligations and timetables, requirements for energy use on board ships, shore-side power supply and certification of fuels and emission factors, among other topics.
