At its inaugural meeting on Tuesday 23 July, the European Parliament Subcommittee on Public Health elected by acclamation Adam Jarubas (EPP, Polish) as its Chair. He has chaired the committee since 28 November 2023.
Its priorities include reforming the EU medicines market, the EU’s ‘Beating Cancer Plan’, strategies for cardiovascular disease, related diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases, the action plan for mental health, implementation of the European Health Data Space, and appropriate funding for health programmes such as EU4Health and Horizon Europe.
To complete the bureau of the subcommittee, four vice-chairs were elected for a two-and-a-half year term:
- First Vice-Chair: Tilly Metz (Greens/EFA, Luxembourger), by acclamation;
- Second Vice-Chair: Stine Bosse (Renew Europe, Danish), by acclamation;
- Third Vice-Chair: Romana Jerković (S&D, Croatian), by acclamation;
- Fourth Vice-Chair: Emmanouíl Frágkos (ECR, Greek), who was elected by secret ballot with 18 votes in favour, 5 against and 6 abstentions.
