The members of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) have acclaimed Anna Cavazzini (Greens/EFA) as their chair for the next two and a half years. She is entering her third term at the head of this committee, since 2020.
The four vice-presidents who will surround her were also elected by acclamation, with no other candidate facing them for each of the four positions, in this order: Christian Doleschal (EPP, German), Nikola Minchev (Renew Europe, Bulgarian), Maria Grapini (S&D, Romanian) and Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz (EPP, Polish).
With regard to the IMCO Committee’s future work, Ms Cavazzini said she was confident and reassured by the directions given by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “I think it’s a very good thing that the internal market is high on the agenda”, she told Agence Europe, citing Enrico Letta’s report on the subject.
According to Ms Cavazzini, two legislative dossiers will be particularly interesting and relevant during her term of office: the report on the quality of EU consumer protection legislation (‘digital fairness fitness checks’) and the revision of the Directive on public procurement.
