16/07/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 15 July, the Council of the European Union adopted the legislative acts on the new EU/Cape Verde fisheries agreement without debate. The new protocol covers a period of five years from the date of provisional application (see EUROPE 13428/14). The new protocol authorises the following EU vessels to fish for tuna in Cabo Verde waters: 24 tuna seiners (14 for Spain and 10 for France), 22 surface longliners (Spain: 17; Portugal: 5) and 10 pole-and-line vessels (Spain: 6; France: 3; Portugal: 1). The EU’s financial contribution for the entire duration of the protocol amounts to €3.9 million, or €780,000 per year. (LC)
