REA will use €5 million in European funding to support research infrastructures in EU and Ukraine

On Tuesday, 16 July, the European Research Executive Agency (REA) announced that it has launched two calls for projects relating to European research infrastructures.

Both of these calls have a combined budget of €5 million. They will be funded under Horizon Europe, the EU’s framework programme for research and innovation.

One of the calls—with an indicative budget of €2 million—is intended to support research infrastructure policy in Ukraine. It is being proposed as part of Horizon Europe’s INFRADEV ‘destination’, which aims to develop, consolidate, and optimise the European research infrastructure landscape while maintaining the EU’s global leadership position.

The purpose of the second call—whose indicative budget is €3 million—is to support a future engagement model for the ‘European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federation’.

It is being proposed as part of Horizon Europe’s INFRAEOSC ‘destination’, which aims to make an operational, open, and fair EOSC ecosystem a reality.

Both calls close this coming 19 September.

The results will be revealed in January 2025, and the research projects related to these calls are expected to begin in November 2025.
