08/07/24 (Agence Europe) – As it did last October (see EUROPE 13279/34), on Monday 8 July the European Commission paid Moldova €50 million in the form of a loan on preferential terms, and will shortly pay €22.5 million in the form of grants as part of the €145 million macrofinancial assistance that the European Union is providing to this candidate country (see EUROPE 13190/27). According to the EU institution, Moldova has fulfilled the conditions attached to this aid: strengthening the central bank’s independence, adopting a law on the evaluation of judges, making progress in fighting corruption, reforming the customs code, developing an economic strategy for 2030.
