08/07/24 (Agence Europe) – June 2024 was the 12th month in a row that exceeded or reached the threshold of 1.5°C above the pre-industrial era, announced the European Commission’s climate change observatory, Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), in a press release on Monday 8 July. June 2024 was also warmer than any previous June since records began, with an average ERA5 surface air temperature of 16.66°C, 0.67°C above the 1991-2020 average. This is 0.14°C higher than the previous record set in June 2023. On the European continent, temperatures were higher than average in the south-east and Turkey, but close to or below average in western Europe, Iceland and north-west Russia.
