On Thursday 4 July, the European Commission announced that four projects had been selected for funding totalling €1.02 million, following the CEF Energy 2023 call for preparatory studies for cross-border renewable energy projects (CB RES).
These projects involve the offshore wind, green hydrogen and solar photovoltaic sectors in five EU countries: Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and Poland.
The beneficiaries of this funding will carry out the studies needed to assess the feasibility of the projects and, where appropriate, prepare for their implementation.
Among these projects, the Madoqua Green Fuels terminal aims to build a storage and bunkering terminal for green fuels in the port of Sines, Portugal, powered by solar photovoltaic installations.
The cross-border green hydrogen cluster in Pomerania, meanwhile, is to include wind and photovoltaic production sites, electrolysers and ancillary pipeline installations linking renewable energy and hydrogen production facilities to end customers.
Another project aims to foster cross-border cooperation on a potential offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, while the Hanseatic Wind project is studying the feasibility of a future offshore wind farm in the North Sea, connected to a hybrid interconnector (HVDC) to reach consumers in Germany and Scotland.
These studies, lasting 12 to 24 months, will assess the feasibility of the projects, which can then consider applying for the CB RES status.
