08/07/24 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 6 July, EU High Representative Josep Borrell pointed out that the participation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States had taken place “exclusively within the framework of bilateral relations between Hungary and this organisation”. In a press release, he pointed out that Hungary, which holds the Presidency of the EU Council, had no power of external representation of the Union and had not received any mandate from the EU Council to advance relations with the Organization. “The European Union rejects the attempts by the Organization of Turkic States to legitimise the Turkish Cypriot secessionist entity, the so-called ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’, which is not recognised at international level, as an observer within the Organisation,” added the High Representative, describing the decision as regrettable.
