08/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 July, the European Commission announced that it had approved the registration of two new geographical indications. ‘Cochinillo de Segovia’, which has a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), is meat from pigs born in the province of Segovia and the district of La Moraña in Spain. The Commission has registered ‘Twente’ wine, produced in the region of the same name in the east of the Netherlands, a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). All aspects of the terroir, climate, location, soil and vineyard management and winemaking process contribute to the quality of the wine. These new names are added to the list of 3,610 agricultural products already protected at EU level. (LC)
