Emmanuel Macron wants to reappoint Thierry Breton as European Commissioner

28/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – “It is my wish and I think he has the experience and qualities to do so”, said French President Emmanuel Macron, when asked after the European Council meeting on Thursday 27 June about the reappointment of European Commissioner Thierry Breton. Earlier, he had said that “formally, France will propose the name of a Commissioner to the President of the Commission in due course”. In response to another question, he declined to comment on the choice of Commissioner in the event of a cohabitation. The far-right French party 'Rassemblement National' has said that it would put forward a candidate for the post of European Commissioner if it came to power after the early parliamentary elections.
