Three elected members of The Left are concerned about misuse of European rules on posting of workers to violate right to strike

Three newly elected members of The Left in the European Parliament, from Sweden, Finland and Denmark, wrote to European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit on Thursday 27 June, asking him to take action on the abuse of European rules on the posting of workers in order to circumvent the right to strike.

The European Commission must ensure that companies do not abuse EU rules on the posting of workers to break legal strikes, as we have recently seen Tesla do in Sweden”, write Per Clausen from Denmark, Jonas Sjöstedt from Sweden and Li Andersson from Finland.

The letter comes after the American company Tesla was accused of trying to undermine a legitimate strike in Sweden by using temporarily posted workers as strike breakers, explain the three elected representatives.

According to Sweden’s posting register, Arbetsmiljöverket, Tesla has gone from zero postings in 2023 to 41 since February this year to replace workers who went on strike in November 2023 in order to force the company to sign a collective agreement for its employees.
