On Thursday 27 June, the European Commission announced that alongside Belgium, it was organising the shipment of further humanitarian aid from Brussels to Gaza, via Jordan.
240 tonnes of supplies collected by the charity ‘Human Smile’ will be transported by sea and delivered to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), before being transported to the Gaza Strip. Supplies include hygiene items, mattresses, sleeping bags and pillows, as well as baby milk powder.
On Thursday, the European Commission said that it would support the delivery of the cargo and cover the transport costs of the operation, three days after the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, deplored the overcrowding of humanitarian stocks at Israel's borders (see EUROPE 13438/7).
This new delivery comes on top of more than 2,600 metric tonnes channelled so far via 55 EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flights, transporting vital supplies provided by humanitarian partners and EU Member States. (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
