A new Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology on Water (EIT Water) will be created, the EIT announced on Thursday 27 June.
A European Commission analysis published on the same day concludes that the creation of a new KIC would be useful in tackling major global challenges. EIT Water will focus on research and innovation around water shortages, droughts and floods, as well as marine and freshwater degradation.
The EIT KIC is a public-private partnership between leading companies, research organisations and universities across the EU.
The aim of EIT Water, with its multi-disciplinary approach, will be to connect stakeholders and steer innovation to strengthen the blue economy and Europe’s competitiveness.
In line with the EIT’s Strategic Innovation Agenda, the new KIC will be selected in 2025 and launched in 2026.
The EIT will invite candidates to present their vision of EIT Water and will publish a call for proposals in early 2025.
