26/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 June, the Council of the European Union validated the European Commission’s December 2023 proposal on revised rules for reporting by users of nuclear materials in the EU under the ‘Euratom safeguards’ system. The agreement consists of a new regulation on the control of nuclear materials, which updates and replaces the current Regulation 302/2005. It is designed to take into account the various developments that have occurred in recent years in the nuclear and information technology sectors. The text is now entering the legal-linguistic verification phase. As laid down in the Euratom Treaty, the text approved by the EU Council must then be formally adopted by the European Commission. It will then be published in the Official Journal of the EU and enter into force 20 days later. To review the Commission’s proposal: https://aeur.eu/f/ctl (PLD)
