26/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 25 June, the EU Council decided to extend the mandates of the European Union Border Assistance Mission for the Rafah Crossing Point (EUBAM Rafah) and the European Union Police Mission for the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS) until 30 June 2025. EUBAM Rafah, launched in November 2005, has been on hold since Hamas came to power in 2007, but could be relaunched to help deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The budget for the EUPOL COPPS mission for the period from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 will be just under €13.25 million. The aim of this mission is to support the Palestinian civil police and justice institutions in the areas of policing and criminal justice systems, thereby contributing to reforms in the Palestinian security and justice sector.
