26/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 25 June, a new EU-funded mobile freight scanner was delivered to the Hungarian-Ukrainian border crossing at Chop, with the aim of improving trade flows. Valued at around €2.5 million, this donation forms part of the EU-Ukraine solidarity lanes (see EUROPE 13377/20). X-ray scanners are essential for customs operations, as they allow non-intrusive inspection of goods. The new scanner will enable customs officials to inspect cargo quickly and efficiently, detecting illegal or prohibited items in a matter of minutes, while facilitating the flow of legitimate trade. “This new scanner is one of the many examples of how the Solidarity Lanes help keep our trade with Ukraine going – to the benefit of both economies”, commented Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport.
