03/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 2 May, the European Commission announced that it was extending its investigation into the benefits of the EU market for the development of long-term gas products, decarbonisation and the reduction of methane emissions, through a permanent mechanism for demand aggregation and joint purchasing under the EU Energy Platform (see EUROPE 13390/21). This enquiry is now open until 10 May. As part of its commitment to security of supply and the competitiveness of public procurement of energy, the Commission is keen to understand the market and contract dynamics of the gas market. In this way, it hopes to define the characteristics of a long-term demand aggregation and joint purchasing mechanism that meets the needs of market players.
