The Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) will conduct a new public consultation, from 27 May to 19 June, to gather the views of stakeholders on the modified methodology for the electricity price coupling algorithm and the continuous trading matching algorithm, it said on 30 April.
In November 2023, the Nominated Electricity Market Operators (NEMOs) proposed changes to ACER’s 2020 methodology for these algorithms.
Those proposed for the day-ahead coupling algorithm are designed to optimise cross-zonal capacity for balancing and exchange of reserves, thereby improving market efficiency.
Following the NEMO proposal, ACER launched a six-month decision-making process with an initial public consultation and workshop in early 2024.
On 27 May, the Agency will publish a study to assess the expected benefits of implementing co-optimisation in the day-ahead coupling algorithm compared with the current market design.
ACER expects to reach a decision on the modified methodology by early autumn 2024.
