On Thursday 2 May, the European Union and Japan announced an initiative to work together to develop resilient, sustainable and transparent value chains. For both parties, this means tackling strategic dependencies and vulnerabilities in global supply chains. This announcement was made as part of the EU-Japan High Level Economic Dialogue, also held on 2 May.
As part of the value chain initiative, the two partners commit to a series of principles that they have defined together, including transparency, diversification, security, sustainability, trust and reliability. On this basis, they want to cooperate in areas such as energy security, climate change and cyber security.
The EU and Japan want to pay particular attention to the risks posed by unfair competition from certain countries, without naming China directly. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
