03/05/24 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 3 May, the European Union published in the Official Journal the agreement it has reached with the United States establishing safety procedures for the launch of Galileo satellites from US territory. In particular, it concerns the security of EU classified information communicated to the United States. At the end of November 2023, the EU Council authorised the opening of negotiations on behalf of the Union with a view to concluding this agreement. Due to ongoing problems with Europe’s Vega-C and Ariane 6 launchers, at the end of April the EU launched two Galileo satellites thanks to Space X (see EUROPE 13401/33).
