29/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 27 April, the European Union announced that €15 million would be allocated to the humanitarian NGO Afghanaid to support a project to prepare for the effects of climate change in Afghanistan. The project aims to benefit nearly 30,300 households in rural provinces through integrated watershed management and community-based disaster preparedness. “Afghanistan is highly vulnerable to climate change. With the majority of Afghans dependent on agriculture, preparing for climate change is crucial”, said Peteris Ustubs, Director of the European Commission’s International Partnerships Department for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, in a press release on Saturday. The Swiss international cooperation agency will also be contributing €5 million to the project. (BD)
