On Monday 29 April in Luxembourg, the EU Council unanimously adopted updated rules on the composition and labelling of honey, fruit juices and jams (see EUROPE 13389/22).
The label will indicate the countries of origin of the honey in descending order (by weight) and the percentage each country represents. Member States may decide, for honey placed on the market in their territory, to allow only the percentage of the four largest shares to be indicated, provided that these countries represent more than 50% of the blend.
There are three categories of fruit juice: ‘reduced-sugar fruit juice’, ‘concentrated reduced-sugar fruit juice’ and ‘reduced-sugar fruit juice from concentrate’.
The minimum fruit content in jam has been increased from 350 to 450 g/kilo for jams and from 450 to 500 g/kilo for extra jams. This legislation (https://aeur.eu/f/bzn ) will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will enter into force on the twentieth day following its publication. The new measures will apply within two years. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
