On Wednesday, 17 April, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) announced that it was launching a public consultation in order to update the rules on allocating gas transmission capacity in Europe.
Dating back to 2017, the current Capacity Allocation Mechanisms Network Code (CAM NC)—which harmonises how transmission system operators (TSOs) offer and allocate the available gas pipeline capacity to network users—needs to be revised so as to be aligned with Europe’s decarbonisation targets and the changing dynamics of the gas market.
After it has analysed comments from stakeholders and consulted the European Commission, ACER will recommend changes to the CAM NC.
Next steps include preparing a policy paper, followed by a public consultation between 8 May and 14 June.
By the end of 2024, ACER will draft recommendations for the European Commission based on stakeholders’ input.
